Canvas prints are back!

I returned to my 'Craft Corner' the other day to work on some small canvas prints.  My craft corner has been a sad and lonely place as I haven't had any time to spend there these past few months.  Perhaps calling it a craft corner is an overstatement.  It's basically a desk with a lamp and a staple gun and a few boxes of staples.  You see, I don't craft.  Or rather, I don't craft very well.  This surprises people as I have artistic abilities but seem to lack whatever it is that makes a person a successful crafter.  I suspect it's patience and the ability to follow instructions or some sort of guideline.  For example, last month I hosted a little Christmas party for a few close friends.  I figured it was a perfect time to make a few paper snowflakes to hang around the house.  Off I went to my craft corner with a little instruction manual on how to make paper snowflakes.  Brief chaos occurred resulting in two sad little torn up snowflakes that didn't look much like snowflakes and a burst of profanity that made John shudder.  That was the end of that.  However, I do make a pretty decent canvas print and I enjoy wielding a staple gun so all is well again in the craft corner.   I don't know when I will make it back so when these eight canvas prints are gone, there's no guarantee when more will appear.  Although, I am wrapping up some commercial work that I've been working on this past while, so hopefully I will get to spend more time with the staple gun.

Also, I should mention that I may have an original ready either later today or tomorrow.  It's a part of my 'Black Walnut Manor' series just in case you're interested....

Finnegan’s Christmas

Here's a photo montage of Finnegan opening a Christmas present from my parents.  If you look closely in picture 8 you can see it's a snowman cookie.  He only got half of it so far (Cavaliers are prone to weight issues) but he certainly enjoyed his half.  And yes, I am wearing the 'unspeakable pink bathrobe'.  It's warm and my mother-in-law gave it to me and I'll leave it at that.

Happiness is a puzzle- literally

For a few months now I have been telling John that I really wanted a puzzle.  This 'puzzled' him as I've never shown much interest in puzzles and therefore he never took me seriously.  However, the other day while we stood in the most confusing section of a toy store (what has happened to toys?) I noticed the puzzle aisle and scampered over to find a fabulous Marilyn Monroe puzzle.  This is all I wanted for Christmas.  A $7.99 puzzle has made me very happy.  However, I did have to buy it for myself as John still didn't quite believe me.  Later that evening we watched Liz Taylor in 'Night Watch' which is a bizarre but extremely watchable  film, and there was Liz working on a puzzle.  I felt a little less of a big nerd for wanting to play with a puzzle.   Liz made it look quite glamorous with her big diamonds and rubies.

Perhaps I'll get the diamonds and rubies for next Christmas.

I hope all of you have a fabulous and fulfilling holiday season and thanks so much for taking the time to look at my work and read my crazy ramblings.   I hope to have some more originals ready by the end of this week- that is if I can tear myself away from the puzzle.

So what’s your unconventional Christmas film?

Last night I had some friends over and somehow the topic of 'unconventional Christmas films' came up. You know the movies that you (and possibly only you) associate with Christmas even though there's not much Christmas in them?  For me it's The Talented Mr. Ripley.  I know that there is a brief and disturbing Christmas scene in it (the one where Ripley is busy unwrapping his Christmas gifts that he bought for himself while impersonating Dickie Greenleaf), but I wouldn't exactly call it a 'Christmasy Film'.  I think it must of been released around Christmas many years back and that's why it sticks in my head as a must see around the holiday season.   My friend Annie felt that for her it's 'The Shining'.  I believe that there was a brief moment of confused silence before she explained that it was because of all the snow.  Sure, why not. 'Black Christmas' was another one that came up, although there is the direct link to Christmas with that one, albeit a creepy link (and we're talking the original Black Christmas here not the remake).   I still have yet to ask John, mainly because I'm worried his response would be something completely bizarre.   Shall we take bets on what it will be?

And a note about originals.  I've barely had any time in my studio this past week.  Those darn print orders are taking up most of my time, plus I've been acting as the fill-in when John can't wait around in the post office line- up.  It's typical that now that I have all kinds of ideas for new work, I  can't find the time to go and paint.   Hopefully I'll have an original ready for Sunday or Monday.
