Here are a couple more paintings for my Black Walnut Manor series. I'm such a sucker for a good love story.
Top Left: Love At First Sight. A Sketch Of Hugo Westlake, oil on canvas, 5"x7". Sold.
Right: The Moment Silke Meets Hugo, oil on canvas, 8"x8". For sale on etsy. Sold.

11"x14" , oil on canvas. Sold.
I thought it was time to introduce Silke who is the matriarch of the manor. I'm now working on her husband Hugo and realized that he's a real rarity for me as I hardly ever paint men, well except for figurine men and 'Sailor Jack'. So I'm pretty excited about it but a little terrified that he will look a bit effeminate.
I also should comment on the crazy postal strike that we are having here in Canada in case anyone is concerned about receiving their prints and paintings promptly. So far, it is a 'rotating' strike which means that it affects different Canadian cities at different times and each strike lasts 24-48 hours. It's a little confusing but the mail is very much moving and the way I figure it, it's probably faster since a lot of people are confused and not mailing anything so there is less volume......this is what I've been telling myself. A few of my friends work for Canada Post and are a quick source of information for John and me. If anything changes for the worse we will update our etsy shop and contact buyers with alternative options for shipping. In the meantime, it's business as usual!
It seems that another chapter in The Black Walnut Manor story is unfolding. This time it involves the youngest daughter, Greer and her guinea pig 'Mr. Pickles' escaping from his cage for eleven days and dining out on French nougat as any guinea pig might do during an adventure. I don't have children and I don't have a huge manor house, but for some reason if I did, I suspect this kind of thing would happen a fair bit. The name 'Mr. Pickles' actually comes from my friend Annie, who had a cat called 'Pickles' who allegedly got into my husband's laundry and stole a pair of his underwear and insisted on sleeping with it. Seriously, I don't make this stuff up.

Top left: Eldest Daughter Catherine Returns Home To Black Walnut Manor, 9"x12", The Dogs Of Black Walnut Manor: Gertie, Douglas, and Little Bess 6"x8". Black Walnut Manor, 6"x12". Sold
The Wasps Nest, oil on canvas, 16"x16". Sold.
There is something about this painting that makes me think of watching a play. The perspective and composition are strange, almost as if you are looking at layers of scenery on a stage that could be moved or pulled apart at any moment. And if it were a play, we seem to be building up a little suspense. The cat is aware, and the Gene Tierney character in the middle senses something, but the other girl is oblivious to her surroundings entirely. Oh dear.
