I finished this piece a little faster than I thought and figured it was a good way to start the weekend. I also wanted to let everyone know that you can purchase Molly's book at Fanfare Books if you happen to live in or around the Stratford, Ontario area. John forced me to pose with the book even though I was sweaty from my dog walk and not much in the mood for having my photo taken. And yes, those are poop bags tied to the leash around my wrist. It's not always cocktails and glamour around here.

With Easter right around the corner, a painting that contained a duck, hare , porcupine, gopher, bird and of course, a cake just seemed like an appropriate thing to do. I have to admit that I love a good black forest cake- the real kind with the cherry booze. I know that for some reason it is a cake that perhaps has fallen out of fashion but I'll love it forever.
I also wanted to thank everyone who made it out to my 'Scratch And Dent' sale over the weekend. Especially those of you who drove a couple of hours and endured a flat tire and somehow remained super sweet about the experience. It was such a treat to finally put faces to many familiar names- your support was greatly appreciated!

I've been itching to paint a Baked Alaska ever since I started reading Mary McCarthy's 'The Group'. I find the old fashioned food references more compelling than the naughty bits in the book. Not sure what that could mean....

Perhaps it was just me, but getting a piece of cake with an icing sugar rose on it seemed like the most important thing when I was little. Actually, even now it seems like a triumph.
