The Hedgehog And The Pincushion

The Hedgehog And The Pincushion, oil on canvas, 12"x16".  Sold.

One might wonder what the fate of that pencil will be.  That hedgehog looks a little hungry.

My husband has a peculiar fascination with this painting. I think he may be worried about my sanity, or perhaps he just likes hedgehogs.

The Husband Catcher Cake

The Husband Catcher Cake, oil on canvas, 10"x10".  Sold.

There appears to be a bit of a romance going on in this painting.  I'll leave it up to the viewer to imagine the details.  I think I've mentioned in previous posts about the 'Husband Catcher Cake' lore in my family.  My grandmother had a cake called the 'Vienna Torte' that seemed to appeal to many of her daughters' suitors and soon became known as the 'Husband Catcher'.  My mother made it a couple times for my suitors and like magic the husband was soon caught.  Maybe there is something to it?

Sometimes a good barbecue just needs a large white porcelain elephant adorned with exotic fruit.

Paige Reads Madame Bovary-sl

Paige Reads Madame Bovary

Paige Reads Madame Bovary, oil on canvas, 11"x14".  Sold.

I have to admit that in complete frustration, I almost threw this one at the wall.  It started off well, and I was feeling pretty chuffed with myself because of the interesting lighting and dramatic posture of Paige, but then something turned on me and the painting started to get really creepy.  I guess, that's the risk you take when you paint a woman with a Madame Bovary vibe. It took me almost a day to rework it and make her look a little less foreboding.  Now, I hope, there's only a slight feeling of haughty malevolence.

Giclee Canvas Print Available through NEXT

My 'Off The Rack' painting was selected by next in the UK for their art 2 order service which is pretty exciting.  I think their print version isn't as heavy on the colour as mine, but it looks pretty sweet and sophisticated in their little room settings.

Oh, and if I stop fiddling and piddling around today, I should have an original to post later.  It has something to do with Flaubert.....there's my hint.  First person to post a comment of what famous book I could be referring to gets a free giclee print from my etsy shop of your own choice!
