The Go-Getter

The Go-Getter-sl

The Go-Getter, oil on canvas, 10″x12″.  Sold.

The entire time that I was painting this piece, I kept thinking of the Mad Men episode called ‘The Suitcase’.   It’s one of my favourites and that’s all I really have to say on that subject.

In terms of the painting itself- I have to admit I’m having a big red fetish right now- either that or I got a big deal on red paint.  I can’t remember, but there is a lot of it in my studio.  Lastly, I want that suitcase even though it’s likely impractical, heavy, and somewhat awkward.

  1. 1. That wallpaper!!!
    2. I’m enjoying the red fetish period. (Picasso had his blue period, but JH has her red one.)
    3. The little suitcase is cute, but some items are vintage because they didn’t deserve to be kept around. Back in the day, when I lived in Europe, I carted a hard-sided Samsonite suitcase all around during my travels. 🙁 It makes my hands/arms hurt just thinking about it. I’m so grateful for lighter-weight (and wheeled) luggage.

  2. I love the wallpaper too! All of it makes me want to close that suitcase, grab the little key holder thingy and race to my nearest airport! So want to go somewhere!

    Thanks Janet!

  3. I absolutely love all your paintings. This painting evokes very strong memories of my childhood. My grandmother had a little red case that looks alot like the one in your painting. Thanks for this lovely painting and all your work it’s all so beautiful.
