The Chirping Cricket

The Chirping Cricket, oil on canvas panel, 8″x10″.  Sold.

One of my favourite things about summer are the sounds of crickets and cicadas.  I think our dog and cat enjoy the sounds of crickets too as they seem to disappear into the kitchen in the evening and lie down near the open window.  They don’t seem to do this at any other time of year so I’m chalking it up to nature.  All we need is a pond and some frogs and that should complete the orchestra.

  1. I, too, love the sounds of crickets and cicadas (katydids). As cute as your cricket is, tho, I’m not sure I’d want to share my snack with him! Hopefully, he’s just checking it out and won’t want a taste.

Really like the Chinese lanterns in these 2 paintings. Very romantic/exotic.

  2. LOVE summer night sounds! It’s been cooler here lately so we’ve been able to turn off the AC and enjoy fresh air and nature’s orchestra, as you say. We have crickets, but they’re overwhelmed by the sounds of tree frogs. They’re the best. I’m sure non-nature lovers would be driven mad with the volume, but it’s incredibly soothing to me.

The painting is, as always, beautiful. I would love to take a seat at that inviting table!
