Paige Reads Madame Bovary, oil on canvas, 11"x14".  Sold.

I have to admit that in complete frustration, I almost threw this one at the wall.  It started off well, and I was feeling pretty chuffed with myself because of the interesting lighting and dramatic posture of Paige, but then something turned on me and the painting started to get really creepy.  I guess, that's the risk you take when you paint a woman with a Madame Bovary vibe. It took me almost a day to rework it and make her look a little less foreboding.  Now, I hope, there's only a slight feeling of haughty malevolence.

  1. I like the slightly (very slight) foreboding feel. It reminds me of reading Rebecca.

Haughty is naughty and good! I LOVE this. It is killing me to go through the archives to see what we have missed 🙂
